Greeted by friendly staff in genuine Thai costumes, you will be invited to enjoy an authentic Thai experience. Ruen Thai offers first class food and customer service, based on the Thai principles of hospitality and respect.

Born and raised in Udon Thani in the North East of Thailand, the owner, Noi Sasorn moved to the UK in 1987 and after working in restaurants across Cumbria and Scotland, opened Ruen Thai Restaurant in February 2009, originally in Botchergate.

It soon became apparent the premises were too small to accommodate the demand for Noi’s quality food and superb dining experience, so the restaurant was moved to larger premises in Crosby Street in March 2010, where it was furnished with beautiful, handmade traditional Thai furniture.

The menu at Ruen Thai Restaurant aims to incorporate many styles and tastes from all over Thailand. No one region predominates, but all of the expected favourites are to be found, or upon request in advance can be prepared. One example is the popular North Eastern green papaya salad "som tdam" which the chefs are happy to prepare given notice to source the ingredients.

Noi’s staff are always happy to recommend dishes and to guide customers through the menu. Personally, Noi always suggests the duck with red curry sauce.

Aware of individual needs and tastes, the chefs are adept at adjusting the menu to accommodate those on special diets or with allergies or intolerances for example gluten or nut free, vegetarian or vegan etc. Noi has taken special care to train her staff to be sensitive to specific requests.

Fully licensed, Ruen Thai Restaurant offers a wide range of wines, beers and spirits along with Thai whisky and Chang and Singha beer.

With support from excellent local suppliers, Ruen Thai Restaurant sources as many ingredients as possible from Cumbria.
